Training our Service Dog

This is the home of Panda Monium she is a sweet bordoodle puppy. Please come back frequently and read our blogs about her puppy progress in becoming a service dog.

Panda Playing fetch

What will Panda do if I throw two balls? She will get confused but soon enough figures it out.

Yes the room is a bit messy, that is what a board puppy can do in just a few minutes.

PANDA THE MOVIE

Panda takes on the challenge of snow and frisbee at the same time.

Panda's Journey to becoming a Service Dog

Panda Comes to her New Home

September 22, 2020

Panda was a puppy when she joined our family on September 17, 2020. We drove up to Cache valley Utah and picked her up from the breeder. Panda had just turned 8 weeks old. We were so excited to welcome her into our family. Panda is a Bordoodle (Border Collie/Poodle mix) and is in training to become a service dog.

We have another dog a poodle shitzu mix. He was not as happy to have another dog join the family. He has been the only dog for a long time and is not so keen on sharing his humans or his home with another dog. We are working through that and as of last night September 21st he was starting to warm up to her.

I have been training Panda since we got home. She is already house broken, plays fetch, is learning to sit on command, and responds to her name. We are also working on leash walking, lay down and leave it. As quickly as she is picking things up she will probably be training me soon.

I will continue to add blogs regarding her progress and try to add some humorous stories into it.

    Versa Dog Sports

Panda has taken and continues to take training at Versa Dog Sports. They are a local business in Layton Utah and a great place to bring your dog for training, socialization, and exercise. Panda likes to go to the Play School to run and play with her four legged friends. In the near future she will start agility training. Meet the owner

    K9 Fluent Dog Training

Panda is going to attend boot camp training at K9 Fluent Dog training starting next week. This is the next step in her training to get her over some humps. We have gone and visited the facility she had fun and I think it will be a good experience for her.

Panda has completed her two week boot camp training at K9 Fluent Dog Training. I have to admit this was money well spent. I would like to say that she has learned so much in the two weeks. But actually it is both of us who learned a lot. I am more patient with her and most importantly more constant with her. I put her to the test last week and took her to Lowes and she was perfect the entire time we were there. Much of the credit for this goes to the training at K9 Fluent Dog Training. She is going to go to the Canine Good Citizen Training here after Christmas. This class is also available through Versa Dog Sports if that is more convenient for you. Versa also does a great job with the training they offer.

    Brookside Animal Hospital Ogden Utah

Because of my work requiring me to travel and Panda is still training there are times I have to board her. Recently I tried Brookside Animal Hospital it was strongly recommended. It broke my heart to leave her their and was worried about her all week. When I picked her up at the end of her stay she clearly enjoyed herself. She waved good by to all the staff and some of them she had to go up and hug them I will use them again when the need arises.

Ruffledale Pet Resort & Paw Spa

This is a place she has attended a few times for day care. When I have had to go into the office or other meetings that were going to take most of the day. Ruffledale has a good drop off daycare for dogs. It is reasonably priced and Panda really enjoys herself when she goes there.

    Online Resources for Dog Training

When you bring a dog into your home you accept a large responsibility. It is similar to adding a child to your family. In some ways its more difficult. By the time you pay for vet bills and food it can add up quickly. There is also your time. The thing that is most often forgotten is training. Training is both a financial and time investment. If it is not financially feasible for you to pay for professional one on one training there are some good youtube resources. One of my favorites is ZAK George's Dog Training Revolution with over 3.37 millions subscribers he must be doing something right. I have found him to be a great resource to augment Pandas training.
